Marion Storck Ambuel was born on October 26, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois to Emma Storck (neƩ Orth) and the artist J. Alvin Storck. She received her BFA in Drawing, Painting, and Illustration from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1943, and received her MA in Painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and MA in Art History from the University of Chicago in 1945. After graduation, she taught Art at Denison University in Granville, Ohio.
Marion was a lifelong dedicated artist, working primarily in oil, watercolor, charcoal, and pastels. She was active in the arts and the community even during years busy with a young family. She exhibited in shows periodically throughout her life, and in 1959 executed a set of murals for a new wing of the Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
Curious, spirited, open minded and open-hearted to her final days, the primary theme of her art is children of the world, a vehicle through which she expressed the enduring values of the unity of humanity, hope, growth, peace, and renewal.
